I have been concerned the last couple of days that the chicks weren’t developing as they should. I think we should prepare ourselves for the worst scenario everyone. I will keep you posted.

I just wanted to tell you all that I am pretty certain one chick is dead. A feed at about 12:30 revealed only 1 chick being fed and reaching up for food. Yes, this is hard for me and I am always the one telling you that this is nature. I need to listen to myself. I am just holding on to the fact that there is one still alive. I will post more later on anything I can offer in terms of why, etc. etc.

KathyQ is certainly doing her best to keep the little one alive. So much admiration for her and for Kinney. Regarding the dead chick, one of the adults may take it out of the nest box or they may consume it. I am not sure what they will do. I just wanted to prepare you for that. The camera will stay on so we can monitor the well-being of the other chick.

Today is a new day. Of course it is. What will it bring?

As of 7 am this morning one chick is still alive and one egg has been pushed out of the scrape. This was the egg I thought may have a pip in it at one time, but it looks like the egg may just have been damaged. I haven’t had a good enough look to see if the dead chick is still under KathyQ.

Are we out of the woods regarding the last chick? I doubt it. It is eating heartily but I still don’t think it is developing as it should. Only time will tell.
